3 SKOV – who and what are we ?
Installation Projecting Warehouse and shipping Sales

4 Pig and poultry ventilation and production – our “genetics”

5 Business model based on selling components
Business model based on selling componetes and systems

6 Global presence “One new barn in service every hour”
Iowa, US South Africa Australia We have more than houses in service in more than 65 countries around the world “One new barn in service every hour” Japan Thailand Denmark

7 The challenge / opportunity
The change from selling solutions based on mechanical and electrical components to (also) selling advanced software.. Copying of mech producst – low price products from Asia. Find and explayn the value of software solutions

8 Year 2006 A customer in Thailand bought our system because we could show data from 200+ houses on a PC in his office A ”wakeup call”

9 Year 2016 A customer in Mexico installed our Management system because we could show consistent data in the HQ from his 540 houses around Mexico A ”wakeup call”

10 The SKOV foundation for Big Data applications
Feeding Water intake Bird Weight Climate Light Control 1…750 houses

11 Our present (small) Big Data application
“Big Data” : 4 Mbyte of data / house / day. 100 houses generates approximately 150 Gbyte / year Sorting and showing important key values for the farmmanager Condensing data -> information -> decisionmaking

12 Why develop our Big Data applications further ?
”We must provide products, systems and services which help our customers produce more efficient” Lowest possible energy consumption Lowest feed consuption Highest animal welfare Lowest emmision

13 The hypothesis – turning the idea into an innovation
Idea : ”the collected data contain hidden valuable information which can be used for …”

14 A subset of the ideas I have produced 20 batches (*) – show me why (based on data) this specific batch is the best rated on e.g. feed conversion rate, weight gain… Give me a prediction of the weight of the birds on e.g. day 35 Give me an early warning if diarrhea is developing Use data from across the value chain to optimize 50 Billion birds / year : 80% is produced by 250 companies (*) a batch is e.g birds growing from 5g to 2500 g in 35 days

15 How we work and organize – to innovate
We (SKOV) dont know anything about big data analytics, statistical modelling, machine learning and neural networks !

16 Big Data analytics – the setup we use to make real products
External partners with knowhow in big data analytics The internal SKOV team Industrial Ph.D. student Product manager Expert in poultry production Software developers Fast prototyping in SKOV products Test and feedback from customers

17 The new – pure software/service - business model
Understand what is valuable for the customer – go talk and listen The software / service must generate a constant revenue stream Test with the customer

18 Questions

19 Innovation network – examples
