Dear colleauges I am very please to have been given the opportunity to talk to you today. I am Mette Termansen and I am an environmental economist. I am going to talk about the idea that biodiversity has an economic value and I am going to discuss with you whether this makes sense og or whether it doesn’t. I will aim to convince you that it does make sense and – in fact – I believe that economics has a lot to offer the debate on why we should conserve biodiversity and how action for biodiversity can come about. The relationship between biodiversity and economics is complex and there are many inherent contradictions
