5 Presentation of the AED
An AED consists of: a defibrillator with operator display electrode pads battery AED betyder Automatisk Ekstern Defibrillator. Hjertestartere kaldes også AED’er eller defibrillatorer. PÅ nogle hjertestartere ligger elektroderne under låget eller i en skuffe i maskinen.

6 Indications for use of the AED
An AED may only be used for victims who: - are unconscious - have abnormal breathing Der må ikke monteres hjertestarter på personer, der er vågne og/eller har normal vejrtrækning.

Tænd for hjertestarteren, når den ankommer og følg instruktionerne. Hjertestarteren bør være fremme ved personen inden 5 minutter efter, at han er faldet om, og første stød bør være afgivet senest 90 sekunder efter hjertestarterens ankomst.

9 Safety rules before use
Pay special attention to whether the person: is wet or lying in water has thick body hair is wearing a pacemaker Be aware of other hazards, such as: traffic conditions flammable liquids/gases high oxygen concentration Der må gerne stødes på personer, der har pacemaker. Hvis det er muligt, bør elektroden ikke sidde direkte over pacemakeren.

10 Safety rules during use

11 Physiology of the heart
Cardiac arrest can be caused by infarcts in coronary arteries. Infarcts can affect the heart’s normal rhythm and cause cardiac arrest. In the event of cardiac arrest with abnormal heart rhythms, an AED delivers shocks that can restart the heart’s normal rhythm. Hjertet er elektrisk styret og er centrum og pumpen i kredsløbet.
