Om Aalborg Universitet Aalborg Universitetscenter, som AAU, hed i sin etablering havde en teknisk profil, eftersom ingeniøruddannelserne på Danmarks Ingeniørakademis afdeling i Aalborg (DIA) og Aalborg Teknikum og de erhvervsøkonomiske uddannelser blev integreret i AUC. (kilde: Aalborg Universitet, en billedfortælling ) Established as Aalborg University Center in 1974 Rooted in a tradition of engineering education in Aalborg Purpose: Ease admissions at other universities, take on interdisciplinarity and project work in the programs - and develop Aalborg and the North Denmark Region

AAU’s særlige profil indeholder en lang række kvaliteter, som netop kan blive vores styrke i arbejdet med at udvikle universitetet i de kommende år. Problemorientering – AAU har en stærk tradition for en problembaseret tilgang til forskning og uddannelse. Forskere, studerende og færdige kandidater arbejder analytisk, helheds., problem- og løsningsorienteret. Samarbejde – Vi bedriver videnskab i tæt samarbejde mellem medarbejdere, studerende, erhvervsliv og offentlige partnere. Engagement – AAU er præget af ansattes og studerendes handlekraft og dynamik – vi tager ansvar og får tingene til at ske. Forandring – AAU skaber viden, der ændrer verden. Vores forskning, uddannelser og samarbejde med omverdenen gør en forskel og skaber forandring. Det er dog ikke de enkelte særkender i sig selv, der er et særlige ved AAU. Det er derimod kombinationen af disse, der er vores styrke. Og vores strategiske indsatser – udover at realisere vores overordnede vision (som jeg vender tilbage til) - har netop også til formål at understøtte og udvikle disse fire særkender yderligere i den kommende strategiperiode. Et eksempel hvor alle særkender er i spil er ‘Satellitprojektet’ - der er startet af ingeniøruddannede pionerer fra Aalborg Universitets rumprogram og er et samarbejde mellem studerende, forskere og erhvervslivet.
